“Microneedling has drastically reduced my acne scars and pigmentation. The concept makes sense…it induces collagen growth and thats exactly what it did. I grew new skin under the scars and the discoloration and everything turned over faster than it would normally have. After 3 treatments, the pigmentation was gone. I’m coming back for more. Thanks Tasneem!

microneedling is now in lake oswego and portland area at the brow boutique. learn about the tremendous benefits of this advanced & non-invasive method of anti aging skin therapy.
what is the principal behind micro-needling?
microneedling is a form of collagen induction therapy (cit). the idea behind cit is similar to that of many other non-surgical skin tightening procedures in that it aims to create a controlled non thermal injury underneath the skin’s surface, thereby inducing the body to respond through the formation of new tissue layers of elastin and collagen fibers (neo-collagenesis) as well as new capillaries of an improved blood supply (neo-angiogenesis) in the treated area. the skin plumps and thickens in response to this stimulus, ultimately reducing the appearance of scars, and fine lines and other skin texture changes. it can be used in combination with pharmaceutical solutions or gels to perform treatments that improve the delivery of such solutions and gels so that it can penetrate more readily through the channels created.
what areas of the body can be treated?
needling can be used on all skin types and is a valuable tool to treat a variety of skin concerns such as facial rejuvenation, scarring (acne, surgical), stretch marks, pigmentation disorders and alopecia.
does it hurt? how long is downtime?
a topical anesthetic is applied to the skin prior to treatment to reduce discomfort and the procedure is essentially pain free. the downtime is minimal, however, patients may experience redness for 12 to 48 hours prior to treatment.
will i see immediate results?
you will notice slight results after the first or second treatment. more significant results will occur after 4 to 6 treatments spaced 15 – 30 days apart. collagen remodeling takes place over time. skin will continue to improve over the next 6 to 12 months post treatment with a proper skin care regimen in place. results will vary in each patient.

Microdermabrasion is one of the more recent skin-care techniques to have transitioned from Hollywood to mainstream. It’s being termed as an “instant facelift” — an effective alternative to costlier and more invasive procedures like chemical peels and Botox.
So what exactly is microdermabrasion and how does it work?
Microdermabrasion is a general term for the application of tiny rough grains to buff away the surface layer of skin. Many different products and treatments use this method, including over the counter creams and facial scrubs, salon treatments, and medical procedures. It’s usually done to the face, chest, neck, arms or hands.
Your skin is made up of two main layers, the epidermis and the dermis. The epidermis is the layer closest to the outside world. It’s a set of dead skin cells on top of another layer of cells that are in the process of maturing. The topmost layer is called the stratum corneum. The stratum corneum mostly acts as a barrier between the outside world and the lower skin layers. It keeps all but the smallest molecules from getting through.
When you put lotions or creams on your skin, some of the moisture passes through the stratum corneum, but not all of it. This layer is home to many minor skin imperfections like fine wrinkle lines and blemishes.
The idea of this process is that if you remove or break up the stratum corneum, the body interprets that as a mild injury and rushes to replace the lost skin cells with new and healthy ones. In the first hour after treatment may cause mild redness or swelling.
This process has a few beneficial effects. With the stratum corneum gone, the skin’s surface is improved. The healing process brings with it newer skin cells that look and feel smoother. Some of the skin’s visible imperfections, like sun damage, blemishes and fine lines, are removed. Also, without the stratum corneum acting as a barrier, medicinal creams and lotions are more effective because more of their active ingredients and moisture can find their way down to the lower layers of skin. As microdermabrasion temporarily removes some moisture from the skin, it is always followed by the application of moisturizing creams.
Some studies suggest that repeated microdermabrasion treatments at regular intervals may influence the way the lower layers of skin grow, as well as removing deeper blemishes over time. Some evidence seems to indicate that the rapid loss of skin moisture may be what triggers the lower skin layers to work overtime in speeding healthy cells up to the surface.
Crystal microdermabrasion systems are the traditional treatment and rely on tiny crystals that are gently applied onto the skin to perform the exfoliating process.
Diamond microdermabrasion systems operate without the need for crystals. The exfoliation process occurs when a diamond tipped head makes contact with the skin.
In both crystal and diamond microdermabrasion systems the dead skin cells are exfoliated and gently removed away from the face.
The tip passes over the skins surface, and creates a gentle vacuum. The diamond tip gently exfoliates approximately 20-25 microns of dead skin cells of the outermost layer (stratum corneum). Once removed, it reveals one’s own fresher, younger looking skin beneath. One Microdermabrasion is equal to three 30% glycolic peels or one 70% peel.
The technician steadily moves the tool over the target area, applying even and steady pressure to remove the stratum corneum without affecting the lower skin layers. A standard session usually consists of one to three passes with the tool. In most cases, the patient is then asked to apply specialized lotions and creams to the affected area between sessions. This rehydrates the area and assists in promoting healthier new skin.
Microdermabrasion is a wonderful alternative to peels, laser, botox, or surgery as it is non-invasive and requires no down time after treatment. Normal activities may be resumed immediately. Your skin will have a radiant glow—free of irritation. Patients experience softer, smoother skin after the first treatment. A treatment series ranges from four to ten sessions depending on your skin type and condition.
A microdermabrasion treatment can be used to improve the skin on your face, neck, and hands. It is a rejuvenating treatment appropriate for:
