Today my skin feels amazingly tight, and I can feel the turnover process happening as well. I am scheduled for 5 more treatments, scheduled about a month and a half apart. I have some acne scaring from when I was a teen that we will be focusing on. I love that the brow boutique is up-to-date with the technology times. Thanks Tasneem! ~ Theresa Hutchison

23 May Benefits of Castor Oil and Coconut Oil

Brow Boutique features two different types of oils created specifically for the health and wellbeing of your skin and hair.

Castor Oil

Castor oil is an all-skin problem remedy!  The Brow Boutique exclusively offers one of the purest forms of castor oil to be found in Portland.  Our 8oz bottle of Pure, Cold Pressed Castor Oil is 100% Organic and Hexane Free (no chemicals added).  These four qualities set our Castor Oil apart from bottles sold at other stores.  Through a process of using the cold-pressed method to extract oil from the organically grown castor beans, in addition to leaving them in their pure state without the addition of chemicals, the Cold Pressed Castor Oil from the Brow Boutique is a unique, healthy and wholesome solution for all of your skin needs.

Castor oil has so many benefits for skin and hair growth.  The main benefit that our clients receive from using our Castor Oil is that it promotes hair growth.  Massage a small drop of Castor oil into your brows before going to bed, and watch as your brows become healthier, fuller and stronger!

Coconut Oil

The Brow Boutique encourages the incorporation of coconut oil into the daily routine of any individual.  Our Organic Virgin Coconut Oil is hexane free, cold-pressed and extracted from the meat of the coconut.  The 8oz bottle of Organic Virgin Coconut Oil is used in various applications in the cosmetic and soaping industry.  Among other benefits, it is believed to promote skin elasticity and anti-aging, and it is known to be an effective moisturizer and softener for the skin.

Besides contributing to a faster metabolism, Dr. Oz states that, “Oxidation is considered a major contributor to cardiovascular problems and skin aging.  Coconut Oil can actually help our bodies reduce the need for antioxidant intake.”  Therefore, our Organic Virgin Coconut Oil applied directly to the skin has many benefits, including prolonged cell and tissue health in the body.  In addition, this oil acts as a moisturizer for both the skin and hair.  Full of vitamin E, the Organic Virgin Coconut Oil not only protects the skin by “reducing the absorption of toxins and pesticides through the skin” but moisturizes it as well.

21 Apr Benefits of Microdermabrasion

Benefits of Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is one of the more recent skin-care techniques to have transitioned from Hollywood to mainstream.  It’s being termed as an “instant facelift” — an effective alternative to costlier and more invasive procedures like chemical peels and Botox.

So what exactly is microdermabrasion and how does it work?

The Basics

Microdermabrasion is a general term for the application of tiny rough grains to buff away the surface layer of skin. Many different products and treatments use this method, including over the counter creams and facial scrubs, salon treatments, and medical procedures.  It’s usually done to the face, chest, neck, arms or hands.

Your skin is made up of two main layers, the epidermis and the dermis. The epidermis is the layer closest to the outside world. It’s a set of dead skin cells on top of another layer of cells that are in the process of maturing. The topmost layer is called the stratum corneum. The stratum corneum mostly acts as a barrier between the outside world and the lower skin layers. It keeps all but the smallest molecules from getting through.

When you put lotions or creams on your skin, some of the moisture passes through the stratum corneum, but not all of it. This layer is home to many minor skin imperfections like fine wrinkle lines and blemishes.

Effects

The idea of this process is that if you remove or break up the stratum corneum, the body interprets that as a mild injury and rushes to replace the lost skin cells with new and healthy ones. In the first hour after treatment may cause mild redness or swelling.

This process has a few beneficial effects. With the stratum corneum gone, the skin’s surface is improved. The healing process brings with it newer skin cells that look and feel smoother. Some of the skin’s visible imperfections, like sun damage, blemishes and fine lines, are removed. Also, without the stratum corneum acting as a barrier, medicinal creams and lotions are more effective because more of their active ingredients and moisture can find their way down to the lower layers of skin. As microdermabrasion temporarily removes some moisture from the skin, it is always followed by the application of moisturizing creams.

Some studies suggest that repeated microdermabrasion treatments at regular intervals may influence the way the lower layers of skin grow, as well as removing deeper blemishes over time. Some evidence seems to indicate that the rapid loss of skin moisture may be what triggers the lower skin layers to work overtime in speeding healthy cells up to the surface.

Types of  Microdermabrasion

Crystal microdermabrasion systems are the traditional treatment and rely on tiny crystals that are gently applied onto the skin to perform the exfoliating process.

Diamond microdermabrasion systems operate without the need for crystals. The exfoliation process occurs when a diamond tipped head makes contact with the skin.

In both crystal and diamond microdermabrasion systems the dead skin cells are exfoliated and gently removed away from the face.

The tip passes over the skins surface, and creates a gentle vacuum.  The diamond tip gently exfoliates approximately 20-25 microns of dead skin cells of the outermost layer (stratum corneum). Once removed, it reveals one’s own fresher, younger looking skin beneath. One Microdermabrasion is equal to three 30% glycolic peels or one 70% peel.

The technician steadily moves the tool over the target area, applying even and steady pressure to remove the stratum corneum without affecting the lower skin layers. A standard session usually consists of one to three passes with the tool. In most cases, the patient is then asked to apply specialized lotions and creams to the affected area between sessions. This rehydrates the area and assists in promoting healthier new skin.

The Result

Microdermabrasion is a wonderful alternative to peels, laser, botox, or surgery as it is non-invasive and requires no down time after treatment. Normal activities may be resumed immediately. Your skin will have a radiant glow—free of irritation. Patients experience softer, smoother skin after the first treatment. A treatment series ranges from four to ten sessions depending on your skin type and condition.

A microdermabrasion treatment can be used to improve the skin on your face, neck, and hands. It is a rejuvenating treatment appropriate for:

  • Age Spots
  • Sun damaged skin
  • Oily skin
  • Minor to moderate early aging fine lines
  • Blackheads and whiteheads
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Removes minor scars

10 Jan 5 Basic Brow Tips!

Here are 5 Basic Brow tips to keep your eyebrows looking their absolute best!

1. Do you want Butchered Brows? I didn’t think so. I love the DIY (Do it Yourself) craze. But, leave brow shaping to the professionals, and as you may already know…I mean expert professionals with experience and Browducation! Not your Fast Five minute Brows for Five Bucks either!!  Whether you choose to thread, wax, or pluck, let an experienced professional give you that perfect arch.

2. Full Bodied Brows frame, shape, and adds definition to your face. A well groomed eyebrow gives you a clean and polished look. Maintain your brows every 3-5 weeks to prevent over growth.

3. Build up those Brows by maintaining your brow shape every 3-5 weeks to follow the natural hair growth cycle of your brows. Between maintenance appointments, only remove hairs between the eyebrows or any obvious strands just above and below the lid using a pair of tweezers. Fill in sparse patches with either a brow pencil, brow powder or which ever products you prefer using.

4. Baby your Brows with a nightly Castor Oil massage. Castor oil penetrates deep into the hair follicle, nourishes and cleans it out with its natural antibiotic properties, all while encouraging and stimulating hair growth.

5. Let those Brows Blossom and consider a more semi-permanent alternative to pencils and powders, Eyebrow Tinting. Did you know that you can have your eyebrows dyed? And even your lashes for that matter? I know, right? It’s a life saving discovery! One less bit of make up to apply every morning. The color is matched to what best suits you, and typically lasts 3-4 weeks. This technique enhances, strengthens and defines the look of your brow…

***I can’t say enough about these Beautifying Tips that that gives more Bang for your Buck and adds Build up, Boom, and Boost, to your Bold and Brassy Brows! Find all of these quality products and expert services Only at the Brow Boutique!!!

02 Jan What is eyebrow threading?

Threading is an ancient old method of hair removal. Once only popular in the East, is now sweeping the West by storm. Who would’ve thought that by using a piece of cotton thread, A Threading specialist could essentially twist it between her fingers and use it as a tool to remove unwanted hair around the eyebrows and face. An experienced Artisan Threader such as Tasneem Rahman at the Brow Boutique Threading Bar in Portland Oregon, however, uses that same tool, much like a paintbrush to a canvas, to shape, define, and highlight the eyebrows by giving them a natural and organic arch that opens up and accentuates the eyes. It dramatically defines and instantly lifts the eye which gives you a clean, more polished look…Voila! A masterpiece! And speaking of masterpiece, Tasneem is an inspirational painter as well.

Artisan Threader: A title, in which I have created and appointed to one woman who is masterful, skilled, seasoned, experienced, competent, proficient, and just mind blowingly good in the art and craftsmanship of Brow Threading.
